LOCATION AND TOTAL LAND AREAS

Minglanilla is located in the southeastern part of the Island Province of Cebu.  The distance from the center of the municipality which is Poblacion from Cebu City, the provincial capital, is 15 kilometers.  It is bounded on the east by Bohol Strait, on the west by the City of Toledo, on the north by the City of Talisay and on the south by the City of Naga.

It is a first-class municipality and has 19 barangays.  It has a total land area of 6,560 hectares.

TOPOGRAPHY AND SLOPE

Slope is a very important land use determinant that affects the selection and positioning of crops and likewise influence the type of management infrastructure that must be adopted to sustain land productivity over time.  The topography of the municipality is generally rolling to hilly.  Only 19.4 percent of its land is within 0 to 3 percent in slope.  The land with 3 to 5 percent in slope is very minimal at 0.6 percent while only 4.6 percent is within the next category of 5 to 8 percent in slope.  Those with slope of 8 to 15 percent occupy another 4.6 percent of the land. The bulk of the land is within the slope of 25 to 50 percent, which is equivalent to 34.3 percent of the total land area.  Another 35.8 percent have a slope of 540 percent or higher.  The rest, 10.7 percent have a slope of 18 to 25 percent.

SOIL EROSION

Soil erosion is one of the most common forms of land degradation, which generally affects the nature and the quality of life in a given population.  Due to its generally hilly and rolling terrain, some 4.863 hectares or about 73.7 percent of the total land area of the municipality are highly susceptible to soil erosion while only 1,734 hectares or 26.3 percent are non-susceptible.

FLOODING HAZARDS
Given its hilly terrain, some 73.4 percent of the total land area of the municipality is safe from flooding.  Those with slight to moderate in slope, flooding cover about 6.8 percent and the rest, about 19.7 percent, suffers from severe to very severe flooding.
